청주민족미술인협회

청주민족미술인협회는 사단법인 한국민족미술인협회 충청지회 산하의 지부로, 청주를 기반으로 활동하는 전문 예술인 단체입니다.

본 협회는 1988년 독재 정권에 맞서 민중미술을 통해 저항하는 예술운동으로 출발하였으며, 이후 충북·청주민족미술인협회로 공동 운영되다가 2018년 독립적인 지부로 분리되었습니다.

“… 다소 간약하고 뚜렷하지 않아도 이렇게 시작하는 것이 새로운 참 미술을 충북에 심을 수 있다는 것과 스스로 일어서는 모습을, 구호만 있는 소리보다는 보다 내용 있고 충분히 삶과 유리되지 않는 모습으로 차분히 그들의 가슴으로 파고들어 함께 호흡하자는 것, 이것이 이 땅에서 필요한 미술의 모습인 것이다. 새삼 지방자치나 지역문화를 이야기하자는 것은 스스로를 합리화하기 위한 내용일 뿐이다.
보다 철저하게 자신을 중심으로 필요한 행위가 있을 때 지역은 어느 새 중심이 되어 있을 것이다. 우리가 반성하건대 무심했던 세월에 돌을 던져 서서히 파문으로 그 물줄기를 찾고 열길 깊은 물로써 충북에 참 미술의 江을 이룰 것이다.”

The Korean People`s Artists Association Cheongju Branch

The Cheongju People`s Artists Association is a branch under the Chungcheong Chapter of the Korean People`s Artists Association, composed of professional artists based in Cheongju.

The association originated in 1988 as an art movement resisting the military dictatorship through Minjung Art (People’s Art). It was initially operated jointly as the Chungbuk-Cheongju People`s Artists Association until 2018, when it became an independent branch.

Establishment of The Korean People`s Artists Association Chungbuk Branch

On April 8, 1989, the Chungbuk People`s Artists Association was founded, beginning with its inaugural exhibition at Cheongju Cultural Center, marking the start of its official activities.
The founding members included Kwak Eun-sook, Kim Ki-hyun, Kim Hak-seong, Ryu Geun-deok, Yeon Sang-sook, Lee Yong-taek, Lee Yoo-jung, Lee Eun-mo, Park In-hong, Park Heung-soon, Park Hee-chan, Yang Hyun-jo, Lee Eun-young, Lee Cheol-soo, Lee Hye-ok, Lee Hong-won, Jeon Min-sook, and Hwang Je-seong.

In the early 1990s, the association collaborated with university art groups, such as "Deulpul" (Wild Grass), the Minjung Art Research Society at Seowon University (members including Son Sun-ok and Ko Kyung-il), and "Geolge" (Banner), an art group from Chungbuk National University (members including Kim Hyun-sook). Additionally, members of the Fine Arts Division of the Chungbuk Cultural Movement Alliance actively participated in the association’s projects.

“Even if our beginnings are somewhat modest and unclear, taking this step allows us to plant the seeds of a new and genuine art movement in Chungbuk. We seek to create art that is deeply connected to life, going beyond mere slogans and instead integrating meaning and substance that resonate with people's hearts. This is the true role of art in this land.
Discussions on local autonomy and regional culture should not be mere justifications for self-preservation. Instead, when we act upon what is truly necessary for ourselves, the region will naturally become the center of artistic and cultural expression.
In retrospect, we must acknowledge the indifference of the past and take action—casting a stone into still waters to create ripples that will gradually form a flowing stream, ultimately shaping a deep and enduring river of true art in Chungbuk.”
